Busby Pub set for £385,000 Revamp

A Busby local is getting a new lease of life, thanks to a £385,000 revamp by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and new licensee Andy Crossan, who comes from south of Glasgow.

The work will transform The Cartvale into a great quality family-friendly pub serving freshly made food with a Scottish slant and will create what is billed to be one of the best pub gardens in the area.

Works starts on 1st July, with The Cartvale scheduled to reopen in late August, creating 15 new jobs.

A full external redecoration will accentuate the building’s character and make The Cartvale into an attractive feature of Busby’s Main Street. The garden will also receive a makeover and become a focal point. New decking and planting, seating for 90 and festoon lighting will enhance its beautiful setting next to White Cart Water. The internal overhaul will give the pub a stylish new look and a warm welcoming feel, including new folding windows and a balustrade to provide views over the river and woodlands beyond.

A new kitchen will be put in to enable Andy to introduce food to the pub. The menu will include homemade pub favourites as well as specials and Scottish dishes, all using ingredients from local producers and farmers. Barista coffee, weekend brunch and afternoon tea and cakes are also planned. A new drinks range will span craft beers and cask ales, cocktails, premium spirits, world wines and a wide range of non-alcoholic alternatives.

Andy wants The Cartvale to be  “a hub of the community” and welcoming to all.  He will open it up to local groups and clubs in need of meeting space and host a range of activities from quiz and board game evenings to music nights featuring bands from Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Andy is also investing in Sky TV so that local residents can enjoy major sporting events such as golf and tennis.

Says Andy, “I’ve worked in hospitality all my life and have always wanted a pub of my own. It’s fantastic to work in a positive environment where you see people having a good time. When I saw The Cartvale was available, I knew it was the one. It’s my ideal; it’s in a great area that I know well and has loads of potential. The plans are really exciting, and the inside will be completely transformed when we’re finished. I can’t wait to open the doors.”

Comments Brian Davidson, Star Pubs & Bars operations director for Scotland: “We’re delighted to be working with Andy to give Busby a great local. His ideas will open up the pub to all ages and bring something different to the village and the wider area.”

Star Pubs & Bars has more than 50 pubs in the Glasgow area including 15 in the city centre. The Cartvale project is the company’s third major refurbishment in the Glasgow area this year, bringing total investment to nearly £800,000 and creating more than 35 jobs.
