Surf and Sales are up at The Unicorn

Adam Linney and Glen Stuart, new licensees of The Unicorn, Porthtowan are capitalising on its idyllic Cornish seaside location to attract surfers. The pub is located less than a 5-minute walk to Porthtowan’s beach, which was certified as a Blue Flag beach in 2005 and is also designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Porthtowan’s population quadruples in the summer with visitors flocking to its famous beach. With no local hotel, Glen and Adam’s venture looks set for success with the many groups they are targeting including families and youth organisations.

The pair has teamed up with a surfing instruction company leasing space in their car park to create surfing holiday packages using the pub’s food and accommodation. Prior to the launch, Adam and Glen revamped the Unicorn’s three letting rooms adding warmth and personality. They are now giving the adjacent 20-bed bunkhouse the same treatment, marketing it as a Surf Lodge.

The Surf Lodge will have three dormitories available, each sleeping up to six people. The lodges will each have a shared kitchen, shower and common room with a large flat screen TV. The improved rooms and additional lodging should also bring in South West Coast path walkers year round.

After a day spent at the beach, The Unicorn can provide you with a fantastic meal from their new menu of both modern and traditional dishes. They also offer a wide range of beers, ales, ciders and spirits including their very own brew – Unicorn Ale. If you’re just looking for a bit of relaxation, you can hire out their unique 16-seater cinema to unwind and enjoy a film in style.

With the new improvements to The Unicorn, Glen and Adam look to have a very successful summer of trade and surf.
