Prestwick pub closes for major refurbishment

The Eagle Tavern on The Cross in Prestwick closed this week for a major £150k refurbishment by Heineken owned Star Pubs & Bars and the pub’s new licensee, Nick Livingstone, who comes from Cumnock.

With the new licensee and refurbishment, the pub will be renamed 7 Saints to mark its change of direction. The pub will be 32 year-old Nick’s first bar of his own and he promises it will bring something new to Prestwick. Having managed numerous pubs and hospitality venues for others, Nick has the skills and experience to make the 7 Saints the go to venue in Prestwick.

The building’s interior will be stripped out to reveal the original stonewalls and will be refurbished in a contemporary steam punk style unlike any other venue in the area. A mixture of booth and comfortable seating, bright colours and an open fire will create a welcoming feel throughout.

As part of the work, a new kitchen will be installed to enable the introduction of food.

Nick is determined to keep the bar’s food footprint small and support other local businesses in the area. Cakes, pastries and baked goods sourced from Prestwick’s Electric Bakery will be served throughout the day as well as a premium burger menu using Scottish beef from WW Wales in Kilmarnock. Grants of Prestwick will be supplying the bar’s vegetables as well as the fruit for its cocktails.

Nick promises an exceptional range of drinks. Barista quality coffee will be served and the 7 Saints will offer over 175 different drinks including 22 gins, unique vodka infusions handcrafted on site, a cocktail menu and 10 draught beers and ciders. There will be something for everyone. The full project will transform the run down pub into a stylish bar with a great offering as well as create12 new jobs for the area.

Nick has been looking for a bar in Ayrshire for over a year and says his new venture is a dream come true.  He said: “I’ve wanted my own bar ever since I took a part time job as a bar person when I was 18 to supplement my wages as a trainee engineer. I like all the independent businesses and the relaxed nightlife in Prestwick, so coming from Ayrshire it was my ideal town for my first venture. It’s very difficult to get a pub here and I feel incredibly lucky to have found one in such a great location and with the opportunity for a big investment.”

Lawson Mountstevens managing director for Star Pubs & Bars said: “We’re delighted to have such a dynamic and experienced operator as Nick on board and to be supporting him in creating a new asset for Prestwick. Heineken is a passionate supporter of the great British pub and is investing in pubs and bars like 7 Saints to help them deliver excellent quality, attract customers and thrive at the heart of their communities for years to come.”
