Marketing is second-nature to enterprising licensee, David Hall of the Punch Bowl, who used a local newspaper promotion to kickstart an email database. The promotion ensured email marketing consent and allowed him to extend his audience reach and grow his business.

David now uses social media, posting offers alongside event information and inviting Facebook friends to share promotions and receive a discount when friends book a meal. Customers also receive an immediate 5% bill reduction if they retweet an offer or ‘check-in’ to Facebook while in the pub. 

“We don’t bombard people as they’d get bored,” says David.  “We intersperse offers with topical news and run promotions fortnightly – one which is time-driven, such as a free bottle of wine for a meal booked in the next hour, and one which runs all week. Our approach is very effective; we now have an active database of 1000 email addresses.”
