Major Refurbishment to help the Lime Tree pub Blossom

The Lime Tree on Dartmouth Road in Paignton will close on 15th February for a major £180k refurbishment and the pub’s new licensees, local couple James and Nicole Stapleton.

The project will transform the rundown pub into a great quality local, which serves the whole community, creating 10 jobs for kitchen and bar staff. Unique in Paignton’s town centre, the Lime Tree will have a family friendly focus and provide activities every night of the week.

For 35-year old James, who has been looking for his ideal pub for seven years, it is a dream come true. “I’ve wanted a pub of my own ever since I started out as a glass collector at a Torquay holiday camp when I was 16 years old.  I’ve had my eye on the Lime Tree for years, as its size and location are ideal. It’s got loads of potential, all it needs is investment and TLC and it’ll be getting plenty of both now,” says James.

To once again make the Lime Tree an attractive feature of Paignton work will involve renovating the outside of the pub, including new lighting and signage, to improve its appearance.

The pub will be completely refurbished throughout in a warm, welcoming style with new furniture and revamped toilets. The kitchen will be upgraded to enable the Lime Tree to introduce freshly prepared pub food, served throughout the day starting with breakfast, and a barista quality coffee machine will be installed. The pub will have two distinct areas – one for eating and drinking and one for activities complete with Sky Sports, pool tables, a stage and a children’s activity area.

“We want the Lime Tree to keep its reputation for great music but will be adding other events into the mix such as sports and quiz nights. There’s a shortage of pubs for families to go to and we’re creating a children’s area where kids can play while their parents enjoy a coffee, drink or meal.”

James also wants to put the Lime Tree on the map with cask ale enthusiasts and is aiming for Cask Marque accreditation. There will be three cask ales on tap and high tech Smart Dispense cellar equipment is being installed to ensure consistently great pints. In addition, every member of staff will receive training on serving the perfect pint.

Our managing director, Lawson Mountstevens, said: “We’re delighted that such dynamic operators as James and Nicole are taking on the Lime Tree and working with us to revive its fortunes. Heineken is a passionate supporter of the great British pub and is investing in pubs like the Lime Tree to help them deliver excellent quality, attract customers and thrive at the heart of their communities for years to come.”

The Lime Tree will be James and Nicole’s second Paignton based business with the couple already running Pure Parties, an online fancy dress and party decoration service.
