The Cosy Dove opens in Newcastle following £430k investment

Following an eight-week closure, The Cosy Dove Pub & Dining Rooms has opened in Spital Tongues, bringing a village style food pub within walking distance of the city centre.

The £430K joint investment has created 21 new jobs and has totally transformed the local pub, opening up two rooms to create one flexible dining area complete with a new bar and open plan kitchen. Open fires, leather sofas and flashes of bright colours combine to create a quirky blend of modern and traditional to provide the warm, welcoming ambience of a contemporary village pub.

Outside, The Cosy Dove has also been refurbished with new seating, terraces and beer garden landscaping to provide stunning alfresco drinking and dining.

Steven Foister, the local chef, has worked in a number of award winning restaurants in the North East and has come on board with the intention of making The Cosy Dove Pub & Dining Rooms a culinary destination in Spital Tongues. Local provenance is central to the pub’s new menu, which features a mix of traditional and modern British cuisine. They are proudly sourcing their produce from local suppliers such as cheese supplied by Northumberland Cheese Company, meat from The Fat Butcher, sausages by the Geordie Banger Company and tea by Northumberland Tea.

Chef Steven Foister described the food: “The menu offers classic British favourites cooked well with top quality ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible. I’m proud of the food produced in the North East and want to showcase it at The Cosy Dove. Newcastle is ideally situated with the sea and the open country on our doorstep, so it makes perfect sense to use some of the fantastic food produced in the region.”

New licensee, Jo Loring said: “There’s been a gap in the market for a destination food pub like The Cosy Dove as there is nothing similar within a mile radius. Our efforts are focussed on giving customers a great experience, whether they pop in for a coffee and a snack or a drink and a meal. We want The Cosy Dove to be somewhere residents and people working in the area can have a great meal and a drink and be proud to have as their local.”

Lawson Mountstevens, Managing Director of Star Pubs & Bars said: “I am lucky to have been one of the first people to enjoy the hospitality of The Cosy Dove Pub & Dining Rooms. Jo and his team are doing a fabulous job and I’m delighted that our investment has helped them create a great destination food pub. The North East’s reputation for great food is gathering pace and The Cosy Dove will, I am sure, be one to watch going forward.”
