The Station in Hedon Is to Reopen in Early April After a Three-Year Closure

The Station in Hedon is to reopen in early April in time for Easter following a major £340,000 joint refurbishment by Star Pubs & Bars and new licensees Steven and Karen Thompson. The investment will see the pub, closed since December 2019, reopen as a top-quality family and dog friendly local.

10 new full and part-time jobs will be created on the back of the transformation.

Funds are being spent creating one of the best pub gardens in the area offering seating for 44 for alfresco eating and drinkingThere will be a patio with seating for 28, and a foliage covered lit arch leading to a Birra Moretti garden with striking wall mural, industrial style tables and benches and four rustic sheds providing covered seating, festoon lighting and blankets.

The front of the pub is also being given a makeover, redecorated in a sophisticated blue with new signage and lighting to better reflect the new upgraded interior.

Inside There will be a tap room on one side serving real ales alongside a range of ciders and premium spirits, and a relaxed eating and drinking area on other side with bi-fold doors opening onto the patio.

The tired looking interior is being brought up to date and given a smarter look and feel including new fixed seating, leather buttoned bar stools and new timber flooring. Glass wall lights, hanging pendants, bric-a-brac, and geometric patterned upholstery and carpet  provide a retro railway look.

New TVs are also being installed for watching live sport and a new commercial kitchen added. The kitchen will allow the pub to offer traditional pub classics with a gastro twist plus flatbreads served with a selection of toppings like goats cheese and rocket and steak and blue cheese. In warmer months there will also be barbecues in the garden.

Steven and Karen are keen for the pub to run as a real family business, with their daughter, helping front of house, and their son taking on the role of chef.

Their plans for the pub include starting a darts team, hosting live sports and putting on events around major calendar occasions such as Easter and bank holidays. The large garden will play a key role, hosting Easter Egg Hunts and live music as well having games such as giant Jenga and Giant Connect 4 and goalposts for kids to practice their football.

Steven says: “We have always wanted to run our own pub and to live in a village. We have a few friends in Hedon already so know it well. We loved the fact that The Station was going to have a revamp and was a blank canvas for us to create our own perfect local. We are looking forward to working together as a family, getting to know more of the community and to making the pub a focal point for the village.”

Jeremy Scott, Star Pubs & Bars Investment Manager says: “We’re delighted to be investing in The Station to create a great quality local with a standout garden. It needed the right team to take it on which it now has with Steven, Karen and their family.

“Heineken is a passionate supporter of the great British pub. This investment will take The Station to a whole new level and ensure it is sustainable in the long term.”
