Robinswood Pub Reopens After Major Refurbishment

Gloucester’s new mayor Kate Haigh joined new licensees Emma and Phil Flynn to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished The Three Oaks in Robinswood, Gloucester yesterday.

Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars had spent £500,000 refurbishing The Three Oaks ready for an end of March reopening just when lockdown was imposed.

The investment has transformed The Three Oaks enlarging the space inside, with most tables two metres apart, ideal for social distancing. A large bar and lounge area with access to the garden and a new sports / locals bar added.

The exterior has also been enhanced with a pale grey render and a new timber frame entrance and covered terrace. New decking and a covered pergola, festoon lighting and patio heaters to the side of the pub provide additional seating for alfresco eating and drinking, whilst the rear beer garden is ideal for families looking to keep children entertained.

The couple moved from Manchester in March to take on The Three Oaks with the intention of making it the best family friendly community local in the area.

Their plans for weekly pub quiz, karaoke, bingo and live music and sports, kids entertainment and a pool team are for now on hold.  However, they will be serving a great choice of pub classics such as fish and chips, pies and curries, a children's menu and a traditional Sunday roast and offering a wide selection of drinks.

Emma says: “Phil, the family and I moved in just before lockdown.  Whilst we were disappointed not to open the doors and welcome customers into The Three Oaks at the end of March, the last few months have given us time to settle in and to get to know some of our neighbours.  We have also spent a lot of time in the garden ensuring it is in peak condition for the opening.

“We’re now raring to go, ready to give local residents the type of facilities on their doorstep that previously they had to travel into town to enjoy.

“Safety is of paramount concern, so we have designated and monitored in and out entrances, hand sanitisers at every door and signage reminding customers about social distancing.  We provide table service and have apps giving customers the option to order food and drink and for it remotely.  All tables are rigorously cleaned between sittings and staff are supplied with masks and visors.”

Star Pubs & Bars Regional Operations Director Caren Geering said: “Local pubs are coming into their own in the current climate as people are choosing to shop and socialise nearer to home.  The Three Oaks is perfect for this – a safe, new pub with lots of indoor and outdoor space and great food and drink.  There’s nothing like it in the vicinity.   Emma and Phil are passionate about serving the local community and creating a warm and welcoming environment.  I wish them every success and much happiness at The Three Oaks.”
